WAKABA Featured by Visit Düsseldorf: Japanese Matcha Culture in Germany
Share
We are pleased to share that WAKABA has been featured by Visit Düsseldorf in an in-depth interview about Japanese tea culture, matcha and our journey in Germany.
The interview explores how WAKABA began in Düsseldorf, why we wanted to introduce authentic Japanese matcha to Europe and how our cafés have developed into places where Japanese tea culture and modern European café culture come together.
It also covers our relationships with Japanese tea producers, including partners in Kyoto and Kagoshima, as well as our approach to quality, sourcing and the long-term development of the matcha industry.
For WAKABA, matcha is not simply a short-term trend. It is deeply connected to Japanese culture, craftsmanship, hospitality and the appreciation of everyday moments.
Our experience operating matcha-focused locations in Düsseldorf also plays an important role in our wholesale business. By preparing and serving matcha every day, we gain practical insight into flavour, colour, preparation, menu development and customer preferences in the European market.
We would like to thank Visit Düsseldorf for taking the time to share our story and for highlighting the role that WAKABA plays within Düsseldorf’s Japanese community and evolving matcha culture.
The original interview is available in German on the Visit Düsseldorf website.
